We all have been there trying to stick with a new habit but after some days or week we forget or fizzle out. The good news? Building habits that stick to them is possible.
But why do habits fade and how can we prevent it. To start off having unrealistic expectations is not the way to go. By having unrealistic expectations it is hard to sustain progress and you may feel disappointed and loose motivation.
But how can you maintain a healthy habit at first you need to know what's your goal for example “ I will read 10 min before bed this week. Next step is to make a schedule and stick to it. Consistency is the key, by being consistent. This means decide when you are going to do the habit and place this will make it easier for example when brushing your teeth practice mindfulness. But sometimes life happens and you may be on the run or even have a hard day but thinking for example “ I will only read 5min tonight” you will maintain momentum, even if your day did not go as planned. Tracking your habits can help to by using a habit tracker to see your progress, eventually you will get motivation and see what you have accomplished.
A great tip for maintaining habits is to give yourself rewards. For example now I have read for 10 min before going to bed for a week I deserve to go out with friends or just reflect on the positive feelings this habit has given me. But most importantly of all you need to break your old habits. At first you need to identity “what are the habits I do that is unhealthily for me or dragging me down?”
